I have a similar need. I understand the reasoning given via a tech support ticket - -related to the difficulty/impossibility of restoring an item deleted from the OneDrive trash bin, but feel this is short-sighted on Microsoft’s part because of the varied ways in which users can use the technology vs. the one way in which Microsoft designers think it would be used. Even PowerShell scripting features would be of benefit for automating management of the OneDrive trash bin for those admins that may need to do so. Retention period for items deleted and in the recycle bin needs to be configurable all the way down to 1 or 0 days. In our case, we don't need the recoverability because we can recover on in-house on-prem via another method. OneDrive is only used as a sync vehicle for certain users and not the primary/final storage location.
