Office + Editor Browser Extension

  1. Editor Should Not Interfere with Normal Word Selection Behavior

Currently, if one or more words are underlined by Editor for spelling or grammar suggestions and you try to select and delete rather than use the suggestion, Microsoft Editor intercepts your first attempt. Regardless of whether you highlight the word(s) by double-click or click-and-drag, you must reselect and delete a second time for it to work.

One workaround is to use an alternative delete method such as backspacing over the word(s) one letter at-a-time, but that shouldn't be necessary.

Note: This issue was discovered/reproduced in Edge ver. 84.0.508.0 (Official build) dev (64-bit)

  2. Editor recognized Chinese as English.

I chose only to proofread English but the Editor still underlined Chinese content.

  3. Custom Spelling list via MS Account.

It would be wonderful if we can have custom spelling list associated with our account, NOT just with a specific PC. I work on multiple PCs. Keeping each coordinated would be nuts.

  4. The editor does not understand emojis.

When typing with emojis, the Editor almost invariably asks to remove the emoji. Since there are no set grammar rules for emoji, this is a tough problem with no single solution, but perhaps there could be allowances/exceptions made for emoji, e.g. so that emoji can replace fullstops or commas

  5. Editor browser extension on Edge doesn't work with Microsoft Word online or Outlook

Am I missing something here? It doesn't work with stable or dev channel of Edge for Word and Outlook.

  7. When editing a doc in the browser in Sharepoint, there should be an option to insert an image from elsewhere in Sharepoint

At present, when editing a document in the browser in Sharepoint, the options for inserting an image are
    - from my local computer/device
    - from Bing

This means to insert an image in the same folder on Sharepoint, I have to open a new tab, browse to the right folder in Sharepoint, download the image, and then re-upload it into my document.

There should be an easier way of doing this.

  8. Multi-languages improvement

    Hi guys,
Microsoft Editor is a great tool, but there is place for enhancement regarding multiple languages.
If like me, you always switch between languages (I am French, living in Germany and working in English) it is annoying to always switch languages: open the app, select always the same three languages between hundreds of variant. So:
1- Make some languages favorites, it will be easier to switch
2- Include the Editor in the New Microsoft Edge Chromium language options
3- allow multiple proofing based on favorite languages
4- facilitate the change of the language using right-mouse menu instead of open…

  10. Detect and ignore BBCODE and HTML codes

Someone has already filed a bug report for markdown. I am filing this for HTML and BBCODE. Editor seems to mark tags like href and img as mistakes inside codes. This could be handled better!

  11. Editor is not supported

When Editor is not supported would it be possible to have that blue icon in my navigation bar turn grey or maybe have a red x-out or something? When me being an awesome writer is met with silence it's hard to tell it apart from it not working.

  12. Proofing does not check though all words

Even after changing the proofing language, Word does not check through all words in UK English. For example, only noting "behavior" to "behaviour" & missing out "organize" when we want it changed to "organise".

Have already tried uninstalling & all the methods suggested. Still doesn't work. My colleagues & I are all facing the same issue. Is there a workaround?

  14. Permitir añadir palabra al diccionario

Que si encuentra alguna palabra que no reconoce, permita que se incluya en el diccionario. Además, puede incluirse la opción de "ignorar", de modo que deje de señalar la palabra como que está mal escrita, esto es útil cuando se usa palabras de otros idiomas.

  16. Don't lay Editor over other overlays/pop-ups on webpages

When there are other overlays or pop-ups on the webpage, don't lay Editor above them but next to them (left, right or beneath), so that readibility of the webpage's pop-up is given.

  17. Not good

The Microsoft Office Extenstion built in grammer checker works on Google Docs but the Editor dosen't. So, what went wrong?
What I mean is that the Microsoft Office Extenstion finds grammer issues in Google docs but Editor can't. So, please be more consitent.

  18. Open .msg files attached in an email in Outlook 365 for macOS

Emails that are read in Outlook on MacOS are not able to open attached .msg files.

This function works fine in Windows. I have been told by Microsoft this file format can't be compatible with macOS and there are these work arounds.

    i. Simplest way - Without using any additional software you may attach .msg files to outlook web application as a draft and then view them.

ii. Use the MSG Viewer for Outlookapp to view the messages in .msg format.

iii. If the file you need to open was not directly created by Outlook, you may be able to…

  19. Microsoft Editor for Mac platform

I use Microsoft 365 products like Word largely on the Mac; Microsoft Editor would be most helpful if it ran on Word/Office for the Mac and as a Safari extension.

  20. AutoCorrect/AutoFormat for the Web (e.g. suggest to convert ... (three dots) to … (ellipsis))

Word AutoCorrect and AutoFormat automatically converts some character sequences to another.
For example, ... (three dots) gets converted to … (ellipsis) and - (hyphen-minus) to – (dash) when enclosed by spaces.

Getting correct punctuation characters on Web pages is difficult, so they are often left as the generic or incorrect ones generated from the keyboard.

The Office Editor extension should provide some simplified version of Word's AutoCorrect and AutoFormat that suggests improvements for punctuation and other common symbols (arrows, smileys, …) to help improve text typed on Web pages.
