Automatic reply email for SPF record softfail
Allowing Exchange to reply to all emails that have been quarantined or even flagged by a Transport rule may be problematic,it can allow malicious third-parties to figure out how to bypass spam filters or transport rules, however in very specific instances I can see where it would be extremely helpful.
If an outside organization sends an email to an internal recipient, and their SPF records are set to softfail, they may never realize that their SPF records, more specifically allowed IP addresses, are not configured correctly, because the receiving server will allow the email to be sent to the recipient.
An email from Microsoft informing the sending party that their SPF records are misconfigured may be extremely helpful. I know that this would increase the amount of mail that Microsoft sends, but I also think that it will dramatically increase the usage and proper configuration of SPF records as whole.
Totally agree, we are trying to implement a custom hack for this, but built-in support from MS would be awesome.
