Allow calendar appointments to be created without inviting all Group members
Right now, when you create a calendar appointment, the group itself is automatically invited, and so the calendar functions like a distribution list, inviting all the members of the Group.
We would like the calendar to have the ability to act more like a separate calendar, or a teamsite calendar. The overlay function would be powerful if we could use the calendar for ... say a leave/Out of office calendar and overlay it over our own calendar.
We shipped the ability to add an appointment that is only shown in the groups calendar. The minimum build to get this feature is 16.0.8429.1000, and the flight is now rolling out to Insiders fast, and will rollout to the other channels in the regular cadence over the next few months.

I will add to the other comments. This is a major problem for our office as group notifications are filling everyone's inbox up and they are all getting annoyed. We need a group calendar for meetings, appts, etc., but without sending email notifications, they can open the calendar up, that's the whole point of it!
Help us MS

Each appointment is still delivered to all the members of the group. With Outlook PC client i can not find a choise or selction. With Outlook online i can chose sending invitations to all group members (preselected), but if i postpone the appointment it is preselected without choice.
Thanks, Microsoft, You have never been helpful. It is 2018 already and still no workaround?
This is still completely broken. Adding items to the group calendar spams the whole team with invites and puts the appointment on everyone's PERSONAL calendar as well as the group calendar. We really need this fixed, MS.
Make that 92 comments!! Really keen to see this working.
Can someone from Microsoft tell us why you even have this site? If your intent was to have a conversation with your users and get their feedback, then it's not working. You have 90 comments from users saying something is not working, and all you say is Boom It's Done. The last response was 9 months ago. Does anyone even reads this? This site just reminds of the old "Tone Deaf Microsoft". Please do us a favor and shut this down.
We had that ( or a similar) problem with a user or two. Turned out they had to make sure they were not in Schedule View. Any of the others (Day, Week, Month, etc) will create the event with "Save and Close", instead of "Send".
If this is done, we need details. Because despite being on version 1805, it still sends out email invites.
No this is not done. Outlook applications on the PC do not allow users to create appointments without sending a mass email to all group members. This is really annoying. Please fix this. I am trying hard to sell your software to our company, but you guys are making this ridiculously hard to do.
It´s not fixed, since Im not able to put a meeting on the group calendar inviting just some members and without sending an email to everyone
This is NOT fixed. Using Flow, and creating a new Group Event, still adds the event to my personal calendar, despite not following the group and disabling all messages from the group :(
Please address ASAP since we can't use Groups otherwise... it becomes a spamming machine since we're using it for contract start and end dates.
I seem to have a new enough build according to the "BOOM! IT'S DONE" post. However, when I create an event in a group calendar, it automatically invites me. If I decline or un-invite myself, it just adds it back to my own calendar.
Part of the reason I want to use a group calendar (instead of just inviting the people in the group) is so that events can be tracked in a shared calendar without needing to invite any particular person.
Not being able to put a meeting on the group calendar without sending an email to everyone in the group makes me wish I had stayed with public folders.
I figured this many years in, groups would at minimum have the calendar functionality down, how wrong I was.
Reopen this idea please until the ability includes meetings as well.
I use my calendar for ONLY my reminders....not everyone needs to get pop ups that the bill needs to be paid or the follow up call needs to be made...etc. How can I get MY calendar to stop popping up on everyone else's computer?? HELP!
@Zach and others (where's MS moderators??) - I'm finding this very inconsistent based on Outlook's version build and update channel. With three different builds of Outlook 2016 we have three different behaviors. With 1803 and 1701 adding an appointment doesn't send invites but no one else in the group sees the appointment. With 1803 creating a meeting and removing the group alias still sends invites to all. With 1701 it doesn't. With 1705 adding an appointment doesn't act any differently than adding a meeting to whole group - all get an invitation even though it's just an appointment. I'll be putting in a support ticket given in my research on build updates I can't find a single mention of anything having to do with groups and calendars on Outlook, but yet in some it acts one way in others another way.
Boom it isn't done!
Wake up Microsoft ! Appointments are different from Meetings. Just like in ones personal calendar I should be able to add an appointment in the group calendar for all to see but not annoy them with a notification. If I wanted to annoy them that is what a meeting entry is for.
Joerg is right! Reactivate this issue and fix it. (in all flavors of outlook)
Obviously Microsoft doesn't work on this topic anymore since September 2017 when it has been marked with "Boom It's Done"
Hello Microsoft, Group appointments are still sent to all Group members :-(
May we ask you to reactivate this Topic?
What would make this really useable is 1) make it default that invites are not sent to anyone at all (including the Office group inbox), 2) make it optional to send invites to the Office group inbox, 3) make it work on all units.
We found a solution in outlook. When creating a meeting from Outlook it pre-fills the TO: address with your address and the O365 group address. If you remove the O365 group address and leave yours it works and only adds it to your personal calendar & the O365 shared Calendar. If you remove your address as well, I found we had a hard time deleting the appointment later. Not the best solution but its better than nothing...
Also in the online version "Send an invite to group members" is checked by default. There needs to be an option for the Group to have this default to unchecked. But until Group Calendars actually work with mobile sync in the default iphone or android calendar apps, Group Calendars will pretty much remain useless.
