Office 365 Group Proxy addresses and Domain Deletetion
Hi Microsoft Team,
Found a bug within Office 365 groups and the way it handles the proxy addresses.
A client of mine wanted to remove a domain from their Office 365 tenant although they had issues doing so because an Office 365 Group was using a proxy address of the domain they wanted to delete. So I went ahead and removed this proxy address from PS and even changed the primary SMTP address to another domain and it would still popup with an error. I confirmed and checked to see if the proxy address was removed from the Office 365 group in Powershell and it looked OK! I discussed this with Microsoft Support and they said to backup the office 365 groups, delete the groups and re create them.
I decided to run the fix like this.
- Changed all primary SMTP addresses for Office 365 Groups that need to be deleted
- Deleted all Office 365 groups using the old proxy address (Allegedly)
- Deleted Domain in Office 365
- Restored all Office 365 Groups
Get-UnifiedGroup -Identity | Remove-UnifiedGroup
Remove-MsolDomain -DomainName "Domainname"
If you have a huge list to restore, run
Get-AzureADMSDeletedGroup | Restore-AzureADMSDeletedDirectoryObject
