Cannot turn off the reading pane in groups, like you can in normal Outlook folders (Outlook version 1802, build 9029.2054)
It seems you cannot turn off the reading pane in groups, like you can in normal Outlook folders (Outlook version 1802, build 9029.2054)

This is absolutely a feature which should be added. I am now seeing an issue when viewing an encrypted email in the group. Outlook performance drops dramatically until you stop viewing the encrypted email. Not an issue if you open the email, just when viewed with the reading pane. I would have a work around for this annoying issue if I could tell my staff to disable the reading pane for right now.

And it's still a problem in 2020
I'd like to turn off the reading pane, but also want to configure the list of messages so they're just one line, rather than the current 3. Why can't I configure the display so it matches my inbox?
This is an irritating problem because the reading pane shows the messages in the reverse order than other messages. Very confusing! When you open the message the order is normal again (oldest message lowest and newest on top), but for some very unclear reason MS thought it would be a good idea to show this reading pane with the newest messages at the bottom. If you could reverse that to the normal way of showing (or if you could have a setting for all of Outlook to choose how you want to see the order of the messages) than not being able to disable the preview pane would be less of a problem. But now the order is inconsistent AND you cannot disable the reading pane I find the groups part extremely frustrating!

Meanwhile we are at version 1902, build 11328.20368 and still the problem is not solved. It's really a pity that this can't be changed.
Really reduces functionality of groups; I abhor the reading pane...
please do something here!!

Please find a solution! Really annoying to have preview forced on us.
I would LOVE to be able to turn of Preview in groups. When will MS fix this ? Anyone?
Doug - I just stumbled across this problem too. Did you ever find a way to resolve it?
