Resolve SMTP mail duplicate problem when sending to multiple addresses from GSuite
GSuite accounts that are configured to send through Office 365 accounts via SMTP started sending multiple copies of the same email any time more than one domain name is sent to in a single email. For example you might send a sales update to 40 email addresses across multiple domains and each recipient will receive the same email 40 times. For further information on the issue please read this thread: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/oemail-osend/multiple-copies-of-emails-sent-to-recipients-via/84cf9460-b7f4-4e6a-bf97-a115a825f369?tm=1538072613792
The only work around's are to BCC the group and put yourself in the To: field (no one gets duplicates but you) or you can take the time to log into the office365 account you are sending through and create a group email and add the email addresses you are trying to send to. This last method works with no problems but it is clunky for end users to setup so hopefully the underlying SMTP malfunction will be fixed soon.
Yes, I can confirm this has resurfaced. Its really annoying when your customers repeatedly get multiple emails.
We are also seeing this issue again
I still show that I'm sending duplicate emails when I send via STMP in gmail. Is there a setting I need to update or what needs to be done to fix this?
The issue is solved. I have tried, and I don't get duplicates emails
This has now been resolved see EX149947 in the service health centre in your admin portal. I've tested this in 3 tenancies.

I’m having this problem - when calling Microsoft they seemed unaware of the problem. I spent hours going through all the troubleshooting and still stuck with the same issue

This is HORRIBLE!!! PLEASE PLEASE FIX!!!

Any updates on this? IMHO this should be part of basic testing before rolling out such changes to the infrastructure. Please fix the issue, this is serious.
It seems like Microsoft does not care about its users :-( I would kindly ask everyone to join this initiative to fix it, otherwise we ruin our contact lists.

What's Microsoft's incentive to fix this? They are basically forcing you to use their service as the work around...

As stated by RoelP, I don't see the workarounds as viable solutions. At this point from my perspective I can either switch over to using only Office 365, or google changes their protocol (though it is Microsoft not following SMTP standards), or we continue to place pressure on Microsoft for a viable solution. I'm not sure what the best avenue may be.
Bcc workaround does not work for me, still duplicate emails. Also the following threads are closed by Microsoft
and a workaround is suggested (option 2 or 3 in the following link)
Workarounds seem to be very complicated or with a lot of reduced functionality.
Please return the original functionality (option 1 in the above link)

This is ridiculous. When will this be fixed? Even using bcc, recievers are still receiving duplicate emails. How is this possible?
Seriously, when is MS going to fix this. A little ridiculous to me we are still waiting....
I have the same problem with SMTP relay !
