Free SMTP send only account
Office 365 allows to send emails from i.e. a scanner by using a paid accounts credentials. It is possible to assign an alias to that paid account and then use this alias as the sender name during the SMTP send request. However, the receiver gets an email seemingly originating from the accounts main SMTP address.
For scan-to-email, this is inconvenient. It means that I either have to set aside a paid account just for scan-to-mail, or that the receiver of the scan-to-mail message always will see the wrong sender name.
I would like to suggest that Office 365 would provide a secured way to send email from a device (i.e. a scanner) without having to waste a paid subscription. With other words, please allow to setup a SMTP-send-only-user for free. That "user" would not have any other functionality than allowing to send email to Office 365 users from a device (scanner) via SMTP.
You are able to send emails from a scanner using SMTP AUTH client submission via smtp.office365.com from the alias of an account.
Work is being done to stop resolving the alias to the primary display name.
Has been implemented quietly
Option 2 and 3, though with me only Option 3 actually works.
