Custom installation from Office 365 (2016)
I need custom installation from Office 365 (2016)!
I need on some computers only Word & Excel. But I MUST install the complete suite with all other never used apps. This need diskspace, that I will use for other apps.
The purpose of the Office Deployment Tool is to provide this capability. Download the Office 2016 version from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49117.
Simone: why do you have to install all? Because of MS's final push to move ALL installations into the "Click to Run" environment. By default CTR is an all or nothing installation.
You have 2 options. The first, simpler one, is to use "symbolic links" to redirect the installation folder to an external drive. The second one is to use the "Deployment Tool". I have no idea if it will work for a tablet

CUSTOMIZE MICROSOFT OFFICE CLICK-TO-RUN (C2R) SETUP TO INSTALL SELECTED PROGRAMS ONLY (2013 / 2016) ASKVG. - DEPLOYMENT TOOL
Above link has detailed instructions.
This tool is intended for Business Office Administrators. Apparently it may also be used for consumer Office bundles. (I have not tried it myself, rohn 007)
Bought Office 2016 Professional Plus. I'm very disappointed by the huge step backwards in times of growing technical knowhow.
1. It's a program also for tablets. These devices often have a very limited partition C:\ (mine has 32GB). I need this program installable in another drive.
2. Why is no iso-File available? Although optical devices are few in these times it's still not dead.
3. Why do I have to install all programms of Office 2016? I currently don't need all! And if you force the customer to install on C:\ it does not make more sense.

This is possible using a custom configuration file. Instructions are here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219426.aspx#BKMK_ExcludeAppElement but you just add <ExcludeApp ID="Access" /> and <ExcludeApp ID="Outlook" /> etc to this file and then they will not be installed.

Especially for SSD's as a laptop's only storage means, a full installation means often a waste of storage space, as a typical user probably won't need e.g. MS Access...
I had to remove Office 2016 because on my SSD disc (c:!) isn't enough space for a complete office. The other partions have lots of free space.
Why can't I install office with these options that I want? I want to choose the drive and the programs, too - not Microsoft!
My ssd only has 128gb, every bit of space counts and not being able to install office on a different drive is the difference between me using my legit license, to ignoring it and pirating an old version.

Microsoft, this is a bad idea. Why don't you let us choose where and what to install?

My C: Drive is an SSD and limited in space, my D: Drive less than 1 TB. Why can't I choose to install it on a another Drive? I Updated from 365 Home to 2016... Not Happy how so much garbage was left behind after the Update... Come on People, your better than that!
I have not enough Space on C:!
What a stupid idea!
Office 2016 Pro Plus, i need the Installation on Partition D, so how 300 Administrators.
We are from a authority with 40000 peoples
Space on drive C is limited for me. I need Office to install on a different drive. This way, my freshly bought Office is useless. Why can't we decide about the parts to be installed or the install location? So, back to Libre Office for me.
I have not enough Space on C:!!!!
I need the Installation on another Partition or bye-bye Office 2016
I want to define the partition by myself!!!!
Not enough space on C: !!!!!
especially as a user of a system with both ssd AND hdd i wish to define the partition . I do not use it so often , so i want to have it on the HDD, wich has more space free.
