Have App Launcher open apps in New Tab as default, or as an option, for all of my users.
Is there a way to make the default action for the App Launcher (waffle) open the app (mail, contacts, yammer or whatever) in a new tab?
That's one of the biggest complaints I hear from my users, that when they click to go somewhere else they lose their spot.
Yes, I know you can right-click and select to open in new tab. Try and keep telling 500+ people that....

Any chance that someone has found a solution for this other than getting in the habit of opening everything in a new tab?

Agree. We are currently trialing 365, but these niggly annoyances are addinig up, and may go the Google Route

This seems like a very simple fix that makes 100% sense and would make a lot of people happier including myself! Just do it Microsoft.

Is this still not fixed? We really need this to be the default setting for over 1500 users!

3 years and still a PIA...why has this not been fixed/implemented?

Me too. What an annoying little PIA.

We definitely need to be able to open apps in new tabs by default.

Voted. Seems like this should just be default behaviour, given how fundamental apps are to workflows (how often are people really going to want to close their email because they want to view Yammer?).

Any update on this request? Definitely would like to be able to set the default behavior for our campus users to open in a new tab, rather than open in same tab. Are there options for doing so in the admin portal yet?

Customers should get the option to choose whether apps open in the same tab or a new tab. I think most customers would prefer a new tab for each new app. As an example, mailbox open and you want to view your calendar. Currently launcher replaces your mailbox view with the calendar view which looses your position in the mailbox.
It's disappointing that Microsoft have left this suggestion lie unanswered for almost 2 years.

Our biggest customers (+10k users) are evaluating app launcher and asking if Azure AD published apps could open consistently to new tab in browser. This would really be improvement to app launcher.

I want to do the opposite but only for me. If i open Office 365 and then want to open Admin to set permissions etc it opens in another Tab. I'd really just like to keep one open and backpage if possible. Any suggestions

On some Windows machines, programs open in new tabs. In others (including the one I use most often), they do not. This implies that a setting is available somewhere. Please fix.

Microsoft does not care about their customers wants or needs. Feedback doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm sad that we switched from Google, which was a much more robust & intuitive suite.

Does Microsoft ignore their customers completely!? No answer still ? This really **** of, as coming from Google Apps this (and also many other) feature was so self-evident.
Also Microsoft app launcher looks and behave differently, depending from which apps you using it !?
This is also completely understandable -

It would also be helpful if, from in OneDrive, you could right-click and open an document in a new tab so you can still have your OneDrive library open.
Sometimes it's necessary to open more than one document at a time.
O365 is so clunky!

absolutely agreed. We use to use google docs and thought we would try 365, but it is so annoying that we are thinking about moving back to Google Drive. Its just a pain that we have to move our domain, emails, everything back. I wish they would implement a fix, its looks like this has been a complaint for years....
