Excel Automatic Date formatting is excrutiatingly annoying
There needs to be a function where you can disable automatic date formatting in Excel. I find it incredibly stupid that Microsoft refuses to add an option to Excel to turn off automatic date recognition an formatting. This is maddeningly frustrating when working with large datasets that contain values excel sees as a date. If you enter a value that excel thinks is a date such as SEP7 or APR1 it will automatically format them as 7-Sep or 1-Apr and reset the formatting of the cell from general to Custom. If you manually reset the format to General or text to try to undo Excel's auto-formatting it converts the "dates" to a numeric code such as 44081 and 43922. and there is no way to convert those back to the original entered value. The only way to avoid this issue is by preemptively formatting each cell as Text instead of general which is time consuming and causes problems when copying data from sheet to sheet or book to book or to another program. Or you can add a space or apostrophe before the "Date" which again causes issues down the line. This causes massive problems for people like myself where in biological science research we use letter-number codes for gene names (which cannot be changed because they are published names) and Excel ruins the formatting by interpreting these names as dates.
