Enable full (Locally Installed) 'Document Property Fields' functionality in Word Online
Currently in Word Online 'Document Property Fields' are very limited:
- Document property fields are not being populated from the connected SharePoint column.
# If document is open in Word 2016 and saved, then Word Online will show updated fields
# Fields can be viewed in 'Reading Mode' but once switched back to 'Edit', the fields will display as empty again.
# Document Property Fields that are inside 'Shapes' get updated all the time like they should
- Existing Document Property Fields, cannot be DELETED or EDITED from the document while in Word Online
Yes - what would be useful is a Create and open different setting - I.e you can have already created docs default to open in browser, and if creating new ones they open in Client - that way its simple to edit properties, but if just consuming a document, you have the simplicity of it showing in browser, unitl word online is more functional when being used with Sharpoint as there are a lot more limitations than just this
This is a great idea! I have a workflow that before you can checkin to publish you must fill out all required fields. Currently I have to set the library to open on the local desktop version of Word so the users will be prompted to fill in the blanks. Why not allow this in the browser? Seems like an easy fix...
