Office 365 Outlook 2016 searching shared mailboxes is problematic.
There is an issue with searching shared mailboxes with Office 365 accounts. Shared mailbox searching does not work as expected in cached mode. Only the current folder gets searched. The solution provided by Microsoft support is to switch to online mode. However, this not causes usability problems with larger shared mail boxes.
Please look at changing the way Outlook searches shared mailboxes. Perhaps allow a complete online search or maybe use WDS on the cached mailbox.
- One Outlook profile with User Mailbox configured as primary and Shared Mailbox as secondary
- Search on subfolders from parent works fine on primary mailbox account
- Outlook doesn't return any item (stored on subfolder) if I search starting from parent Inbox folder of Shared Mailbox.
Full search functionality if knocking Shared Folders off cache mode. Can still run primary mailbox in Cache mode in case going offline but any shared mailboxes need to be online and not in cache mode to gain any useful search function.
As others have said I dont think MS have this as a high priority so dont expect a fix anytime soon
Please change the delegate features back! as an executive assistant it is vital that I can search my managing director's inbox, view his sent emails in conversation mode and have full eyes on as a functioning email account. Some of us manage multiple inboxes including our own. this update is unacceptable and has made my life a living ****. Where time management is a key component of my job, I find I am wasting more time searching manually than I should. This needs to Change!
I have the same problem on my shared mailboxes. It was working fine, but since one update I have a lot of issues with shared mailboxes and I should be able to search through all mailboxes
I see 5 different Threads on user voice for the same problem

I have just created a ticket with Microsoft Support Office 365 Case # 13791000 and was put down all the usual channels rebuild indexes test again issue still present until i mentioned the fact that this is a known issue they then revelaed that Microsoft have plans to release the fix in their next update. They cant tell me when that is as they currently working on the Skype to Teams project as a priority.
They then informed me they will close my ticket and raise a new ticket on this user voice site
However I can see one can wait years and close to decades before a simple thing like the search function in outlook behaves as expected.
So I am here to basically add a vote and say dont hold your breath for a fix.
Adding the shared mailbox as a separate account or disabling cached exchange mode are the workarounds until one day Microsoft decide to continue working on this problem.
We are a reseller and we see this issue present accross all our tenants on various versions of office including the latest version.
I was able to fix my delegate search issues when I switched from cached exchange mode. Now everything works fine and no errors.
this is really problematic. the solution to add the shared mailbox as a separate account causes a whole lot of other issues and breaks functionalities that are required by the users that are only achievable through automapping!

This is problematic on Delegated Mailboxes. Search doesn't work period. Can't search sub folders. Can't search content from the delegated mailbox even when you select All Mailboxes to search. It only works when you select current folder.
