Global Office template store for an organization
Most organizations have their own set of tamplates for Office documents (Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc). Traditionally these have been used when using the client version of Word, PowerPoint etc. There is a need for a single storage in Office 365 wher an organizations templates can stored and managed. Changes in templates then must be propagated to client, team sites, groups etc etc. Managing office templates locally and in SharePoint today is too cumbersome.
One way to get this functionality currently (but not ideally) would be to have the org's template top-level folder sync'ing via OneDrive (but sync'ing the SharePoint folder) and then you CAN set the WorkGroup Template location to your local sync'd folder.
we should be able to set the workgroup templates location to a sharepoint site by default. Does not make any sense now days to point to a local/network folder.
This is a must have feature for our organization in order to take full advantage of SharePoint and OneDrive!
Still waiting for this, templates should be so simple to assign to an organization...but they are not

Absolutely needed feature
This would be a high value feature for our business. We're currently able to leverage this functionality through Google Docs.

I think this is on of the must-have feature for both online and offline version of Office.

Awesome, I was just going to suggest this. Great to have all the microsoft templates at the start up of word, and the ability to put in your own templates for personal use.
But would be awesome to have the ability to save organisation templates that become available to all staff in the same location.
We don't use sharepoint, so that solution is not relevant to us. We need a global / organisational templates area in word as you open word.

This is sorely missing and is a must-have feature. There should be a preview thumbnail as well. User Preview thumbnails are completely absent for Office for Mac 2016

This global template store should be accessible in the office 365 online "new document" interface.
We have used the implementation for the local office client , we would like to have something similar in the online interface .
