expand the locations available for saving on iphones and ipads
I have been searching online everywhere on how to connect my Microsoft applications on my iPhone and ipad to save to my WD MyCloud device which I purchased for security and cost reasons. The main reason was so that I can save files easily from my ipad and iPhone which I cannot do within the Microsoft apps because the only places it allows me to save is to dropbox and onedrive which is the exact reason I purchased my MyCloud device to begin with so I was not bound to only online services. I am extremely displeased with Microsoft for basically blocking my ability to be able to save to my device. It is supported by my phones software, many of the apps I use and even Microsoft themselves within the functions of my laptop. After weighing the pros and cons, I have officially decided that I will not be creating or saving anymore files on my iPhone or ipad with the Microsoft products until they create a solution or fix this. It is most definitely a violation of my ability to protect my files and store them in secure places that is not controlled by the creators of the product, and we should not be forced to save these same files onto cloud devices that are provided only by the company that created the software to begin with. It actually boggles my mind that there is not more concern about this within the community of users themselves, and I am actually insanely insulted that this mass company thinks it is ok for them to create a product and then tell its users that they can only save their files onto this same companies servers when using iPhone or ipad products. I think that this is a valid trust issue with this company and in itself is a form of monopolization with their products (especially since monopolies themselves are illegal). Even Apple themselves do not force us to save our files on icloud and can be backed up onto our own personal computers if so desired. I think in this new era of cloud services and online file saving and sharing that we have the right to protect our private and personal works in the form we choose, and I have stopped using products completely in the past because of this same form of monopolization with their products. Any company that strips a large majority of the users capacity by controlling how a product works and stores information should not be trusted. It is hard enough in this era to protect our works and personal endeavors without having individuals copy and post them as their own as it is, without a large company stepping in and controlling what you do, so why would I want to add that to my list of concerns? If Microsoft is a fair and reputable company, then they should see this and strive to help users protect and secure their work, and not force users to upload work to their company owned OneDrive servers or with DropBox who they are partnered with. And yes I am aware that I can save to my phone or ipad, which I am bringing up because I'm sure it will be said, and if I had enough room there to begin with, I wouldn't have had to purchase a separate device either. Not to mention that the compatibility between my phone, tablet and computer makes it difficult to transfer without using an outside device (or server which again they control). I realize this is an extremely long post and it really only covers the important part of my thoughts, but as a society and consumer based market, we need to be vigilant in protecting our works and our privacy as much as we can, because the more that we allow this, the more it will happen and become the norm. This is a massive and potentially dangerous issue that I think every one should be aware of and stand up against.
